As Xinjiang Guanghui officially announced its withdrawal from the league before the start of the CBA stage 3 regular season men’s basketball, the contradiction between them and the National Hand Zhou Qi also attracted strong attention from all walks of life. The reporter from Nandu also sorted out the grievances and disputes between the two sides on the transfer and signing contracts over the years, and the current “double loss” ending will also be a big loss for Chinese basketball.
· 27-year-old Zhou Qi was born in Henan province. When he was 9 years old, he entered Fuxin Sports School in Liaoning province to learn basketball and soon attracted attention in the domestic youth basketball arena. Before he was a minor, he was the main force of Liaoning youth team and national youth team.
· In 2013, 17-year-old Zhou Qi transferred from Liaoning youth team to Xinjiang men’s basketball. At that time, it was said that the Xinjiang team offered him a contract of 45 million for eight years. In the next year, Zhou Qi officially signed a contract with the Xinjiang team to log on to CBA, at that time, the contract was “4+2”. After the contract expired, Xinjiang team had the priority to sign the contract for 2 years.
· From 2014 to 2017, Zhou Qi played for three seasons on behalf of Xinjiang men’s basketball, and helped Xinjiang men’s basketball win the first championship trophy in young pioneer team history in the 16-17 season.
· In 2016, Zhou Qi was selected by the Houston Rockets in the NBA draft conference, and officially signed the Rockets in 2017, becoming the second Chinese player to play for the Houston team after Yao Ming.
In 2018, CBA issued a new contract regulation. According to the new regulation, after the expiration of other types of contracts except Class D top salary contracts, the original club only needs to offer Class D top salary to players, you can have the exclusive right to sign the contract; At the same time, after the foreign players return home to play, they have A contract with the original domestic team, and the rest of the contract will be transferred to Class A or Class B.
· At the end of 2018, after Zhou Qi was laid off by the rockets, it was once rumored that he signed a contract in Liaoning men’s basketball, and even pictures of the signing contract between the two parties were reported in the public, however, the Xinjiang team requested to renew the contract with Zhou Qi based on the previous “4+2” contract.
· In May, 2019, the alliance decided that the Xinjiang team had the right to renew the contract with Zhou Qi for two years. According to the new regulations, its contract belonged to Class B.
· From 2019 to 2021, Zhou Qi continued to play for the Xinjiang team for two seasons. According to the current statement of the Xinjiang team, they paid Zhou Qi more than 49 million yuan for these two seasons. The CBA salary limit order was officially implemented in June of the same year.
· In the summer of 2021, after the contract between Zhou Qi and the Xinjiang team expired, the Xinjiang team renewed the contract according to the new regulations. Zhou Qi himself refused, he also reported that the club had problems such as “yin and yang contract”, but his appeal did not get the support of the CBA league at that time. Zhou Qi immediately announced that he would withdraw from CBA and go to Australia’s NBL league to play.
· On February 17, 2023, the Chinese Basketball Association announced the “notice on punishment of Xinjiang Guanghui basketball club Co., Ltd. by the discipline and ethics committee of China Basketball Association”, confirming that Guanghui club constitutes a registration violation, he was punished for notification criticism, restriction of registration of new athletes within one year, prohibition of participation or transfer of domestic athletes, etc. The interpretation of this punishment by multiple authorities will restore Zhou Qi to “free body”.
· On February 28, 2023, Xinjiang Guanghui basketball club announced its decision to withdraw from the remaining games and CBA league and donated all its assets to Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
Soon afterwards, Zhou Qi issued a personal announcement and posted the contract, accusing Guanghui club of “bullying up and down” and violating the rules.
Neither the CBA league nor the Chinese Basketball Association has responded to this matter.
